(OAKLAND, Ca) The AIPHS Lady Eagles soccer team defeated their rival Oakland Charter Academy 4-1 in their BACSAC season opener and first game in team history. Despite the victory, the Lady Eagles overcame cold and wet weather and an early first half scare to win Tuesday’s match.
After Kimberly Beltran (#14) of OCA (0-1) scored the Matador’s first goal to go up 1-0, Luwam Ghebrehiwot (#3) of the Lady Eagles scored the team’s first-ever goal on a Paola Barron (#14) assist to tie up the match. Lady Eagles Forward/Midfielder Paola Barron (#14) followed up with a goal on a Gia Shine (#5) assist to give AIPHS their first lead of the night. The Lady Eagles extended their lead in the second half with goals by Vanessa Rivas (#9) and Paola Barron’s second of the evening.
Lady Eagles Head Coach Yohannes Harrish was very excited about the amazing performance from his team and the collective effort that led to their first victory:
“We talked about focusing on what we can control - working hard, staying focused and disciplined within our positions, and performing collectively, which is what our team did for the most part. In a short amount of time, the team has shown a lot of progress and we will only keep getting better as the season goes on.”
With the victory, the Lady Eagles (1-0) will travel to Richmond to battle against the John Henry High school Wildcats (0-1), this Friday, March 16, at 4PM, at MLK Field in Richmond, CA. The AIPHS community is asked to come out and support. #AIMSTRONG
